The Blue Heron Restaurant - About Us

Restaurateurs, Manuel and Gail Medeiros learned their culinary arts in the hot spots of Toronto, Vancouver and Whistler. Manuel was born in the Azores Islands of Portugal and emigrated to Canada with his family in the 70's. He took his chefs training at George Brown College in Toronto and was fortunate to be doing his apprenticeship at The Sutton Place Hotel under the aspusics of Mark MaCewan of North 44 and ByMark fame. He became the sous chef at the top restaurant Pronto's under the guidance of Franco Provodalo. The whole team became the culinary stars at the Ontario Pavillion at Expo 86. It was there that Manuel was discovered by Umberto and became the chef for his restaurant in Whistler, and also where he met his wife, Gail.

Together they moved back to Toronto, Gail as Catering Manager for The Delta Chelsea and The Sheraton Centre, and Manuel as the Executive Chef at La Pentola. In 1991 while visiting relatives on the Coast they decided to stay and open their own restaurant. They were told that their competition would be the Blue Heron Inn so they decided to buy it. The rest is history!

Today they love providing a beautiful setting as well as using the fabulous fresh products that Sechelt and the Sunshine Coast supplies for their customers fine dining pleasure. They have had such wonderful times serving the Sunshine Coast community's need for a special site to celebrate all the events that follow ones life. Their daughter was brought up in this nurturing place and is now going to Toronto for Hospitality / Tourism at her fathers alma matter, George Brown College.
